About Hunter
I’M A GLOBAL CITIZEN, INTERNATIONAL EDUCATOR, AND LOVER OF TRAVEL
Hey, I’m Hunter!
This isn't just any blog—I'm here to share the real story of moving, living, and studying abroad. From navigating visa nightmares to finding housing in foreign cities, from amazing solo travel adventures to spectacular cultural mishaps across 25+ countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
You'll get the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between, plus all my hard-earned tips so you'll be way more prepared than I was stumbling off that plane in Prague.
I'll also be diving into politics (because living abroad completely changes your perspective on American politics), sharing my thoughts on music and films, and honestly, whatever else I feel like writing about. This is my space, after all!
You may ask, how did I get here?

Life Before Moving Abroad
Growing up in small-town, rural North Carolina, I always dreamed of going to New York City for college to get that big city experience.
I was supposed to spend my senior year of high school in France on an exchange program. As we all know, COVID took over and my program was unfortunately cancelled. At that point, I was already graduating a year early and it was too late to apply for universities starting in the fall, so I decided to spend the fall semester at home working.
During this time, I still longed for the abroad experience I missed out on, so I started researching universities in Europe. This is how I discovered my now-alma mater, Anglo-American University in Prague, Czechia, where I spent 3 years studying International Relations and Human Rights. I was able to move abroad, travel all over Europe, study my dream major, and meet the most incredible people.
My passion for studying abroad led to me wanting to help others have the same life-changing experience—and this is how I started my career in international education.
From international student…
When I first arrived in Prague in February 2021, I had no idea it would change my entire life trajectory. What started as a way to finally study abroad after COVID canceled my high school exchange program became the foundation for my career in international education.
Building a Life Abroad: From the moment I stepped off the plane, I threw myself into campus life at Anglo-American University. I became Student Council treasurer, managing a $13,000 budget for clubs and student initiatives. I helped reform the university's merit-based scholarship and sexual assault policies. As a student ambassador, I generated 20+ multimedia content pieces and represented AAU at international student fairs, speaking with 200+ prospective students daily.
Discovering My Passion: But what really shaped me was mentoring fellow international students. I coordinated airport pickups and housing for 100+ exchange students from 10+ countries, organized cultural trips, and became the person students turned to when they felt homesick or overwhelmed. Working with Beyond the States as a student ambassador, I wrote blog posts and created videos about European student life, serving as a contact point for 50+ prospective students. I realized I had found my calling: helping others navigate the life-changing experience of studying abroad.
The Foundation: These experiences in Prague taught me that international education isn't just about academics—it's about building resilience, cultural competency, and global citizenship. Every challenge I helped a student overcome became a lesson in what successful international programming looks like.
… To International educator
People are desperate for honest guidance about studying abroad. During my master's program at King's College London, I was contacted almost weekly—by friends, family, strangers on Instagram and TikTok—asking for advice about moving abroad. The problem? Most "consulting" companies charge hundreds or thousands of dollars for basic information.
Making an Impact: This demand led to real opportunities to help. From December 2024 to March 2025, I worked with AFS-USA as a Seasonal Interview Coordinator for prestigious State Department programs (NSLI-Y and YES Abroad). I personally conducted 62 interviews and coordinated 48 volunteers across 17 area teams to complete 150+ interviews total. These competitive programs send American high school students worldwide as cultural ambassadors—and I helped identify the next generation of global leaders.
Beyond Individual Students: My current role at Northeastern University as Global Student Success Coordinator has expanded my impact. I now manage the safety and success of 125 first-year students abroad, design 20+ experiential learning programs, and coordinate with international partners across multiple countries. I'm responsible for everything from emergency response to cultural programming—essentially creating the support system I wish I'd had as a student.
Why I'm Here: This blog exists because I believe everyone deserves access to honest, practical advice about international education. Whether you're a student considering studying abroad, a professional in the field, or someone curious about life beyond borders, I'm here to share what I've learned—without the expensive consulting fees.
A Brief TImeline of my journey
I Have to Be an Adult
2025
In January, I graduated from my Master's program. In the same month, I started my first "big boy job" (even though it was only a 3-month contract) with AFS-USA, where I interviewed high school student applicants for the US State Department High School Exchange Program scholarship programs NSLI-Y and YES ABROAD.
Current Situation
As of July 2025
In July, I moved out of London and came back to the US for the Summer. In the fall, I will be moving to Glasgow, Scotland for the next chapter in my professional journey, where I will be working with first-year students from Northeastern University as they study abroad.
